Holy shit, this is an excellent spread
After whetting appetites with the news that Norwegian experimental heroes Ulver would be appearing at this year's Dark Mofo event in Hobart, organisers have revealed the full, jaw-dropping program, featuring some seriously incredible and diverse artists from Australia and abroad.
The lip-smacking spread of sights and sounds includes Scottish post-rock veterans Mogwai, unstoppable Aussie rap duo A.B. Original, venerated noise-rock luminaries Xiu Xiu (performing their take on the score to cult-favourite series Twin Peaks, as composed by Angelo Badalamenti), German industrial trailblazers Einsturzende Neubauten and Oz-music hero Paul Kelly, as part of the Ancient Rain event with Camille O'Sullivan and Feargal Murray, among a whole raft of other drawcards.
Beyond the straight musical fare, there is the program of Dark Mofo Films — to be announced this May — as well as the annual Nude Solstice Swim and fellow favourite Winter Feast, plus a rumination on sound and the absence thereof in Silence, the harrowing drama of Radio Gothic, the astonishing array of artworks at The Museum Of Everything, the art-and-music-blending Borderlands (featuring Nine Inch Nails touring member Alessandro Cortini, local sound-smith and aural philosopher Lawrence English, US artist Grouper and Sweden's Klara Lewis) and a new, gruesome work from the ever-visceral Hermann Nitsch, just to name a few of the highlights.
Dark Mofo runs from 8-21 June. Tickets will go on sale from 10am this Tuesday, 11 April.
