Gates are finally open at the Melbourne event, though one band's gear has been lost in transit.
As the Soundwave Festival kicks off in Melbourne this morning, bad news has come through from the Mindless Self Indulgence camp. It is reported that the band's luggage and equipment has been lost in transit and will not be recovered in time for the band to playtheir scheduled Soundwave set.
Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah announced the news via twitter a few minutes ago and, while he says it is 'likely' the band will miss their set, there has been no confirmation as yet. Soundwave have confirmed the band will be unable to play.
Virgin's plethora offuck ups continue. Now they have lost MSI bags and equipment. Likely that band will miss their set. #SW13 #SW13Melb

Virgin Australia have said it was a baggage belt issue at Sydney airport that forced the band to arrive sans equipment.
@iamnotshouting Hi, there was a baggage belt issue at SYD's T2 which affected all airlines. We sincerely apologise and will be in touch ASAP

Earlier today thousands of Soundwave revellers sufgfered delays in entering the event as gates weren't able to be opened at their scheduled time. Maddah has responded to frustrated tweeters at the event, saying the reason for the delay was to do with a safety issue in relation to section of the crowd barrier.
Guys, we had issues with how some sections of the barrier had been assembled & had to get some of it redone before it was safe to open site
