Never has the old adage "When it rains, it pours" felt more relevant than when looking at the presently stacked plate of Melbourne-via-Adelaide muso Mike Waters.
Not only is Waters celebrating the release of his debut EP, Life, today, but he has a brand new video to unveil in the form of fresh single Gambling Man, as well as the news that he's cemented management and booking agent deals with respected local businesses WAU Management (UNFD) and Select Music — all ahead of a whirlwind run of shows kicking off next month to celebrate the new release. And we thought we were busy.
Gambling Man provides the first taste of Life, its clip a collaboration with long-time friend and award-winning photographer Oli Sansom, pulled together on a shoestring budget and a whole mess of coloured goop and anonymous limbs to sit alongside Waters' sublime composition providing the soundtrack.
"It took many rehearsals and run-throughs," Waters said of the video in a statement. "I regularly sat in that chair in the freezing cold, shirtless and with my head covered in a mixture of sorbolene, cornflour and food colouring.
"Oli's studio doesn't have hot water, so cleaning up afterwards was testing. But it was definitely worth it. When we felt we were happy with the test takes, we turned our pockets out, hired a camera, set up some lights, and spent the day doing take after take. It was a hell of a lot of fun."
You can see the results of Waters and Sansom's hard work (and play) below.
