It's based off a 19th century play
The Drones' former drummer and solo artist Mike Noga has announced a signing to label Cooking Vinyl Australia this week, to coincide with the arrival of his third solo record, KING.
Described as a "dark, psychedelic" concept album based on German dramatist Georg Büchner's 19th century play Woyzeck, KING was produced by Paul Dempsey and features narration from Game Of Thrones and Almost Famous actor Noah Taylor.
To coincide with the news, Noga has revealed the first taste of the concept album — the a single in the form of the "last scene" Nobody Leads Me To Flames — wherein the protagonist Jack is tearing through the forest while "hearing voices from above". He'll also be taking the record out on a few preview shows this June at the Gasometer — on Wednesdays 15, 22 and 29 June.
"Paul [Dempsey] and I wanted to open strong, and decided to use a technique often applied in film… Put the pivotal scene first then go back to the start and introduce the characters and plot," explains Noga of the lead single.
