Meshuggah Announce 2017 Australian Tour

The Swedish extreme-metal lords return Down Under for four dates in March next year

Swedish heavyweights Meshuggah have announced a four-date return tour to Australia in March next year in the wake of a single performance in New Zealand.

Following their appearance at Auckland's Powerhouse on Thursday 9 March, the venerated veterans will touch down in Brisbane before heading on to perform in Sydney — where their gig is a licensed all-ages event — as well as Melbourne and Fremantle.

The trip comes in the wake of their keenly awaited eighth studio full-length, The Violent Sleep Of Reason, due for release next month on Nuclear Blast. It's their first new album since 2012's acclaimed effort Koloss and, if early reports are to be believed, is as adherent to Meshuggah's modus operandi (insomuch as one exists) as ever — meaning it's almost impossible to guess as to what to expect. According to drummer Tomas Haake: "We’re not trying to write your average metal song. We’re not trying to write catchy songs. We’re not trying to write hit songs. We’re just trying to write something that is cool, that we haven’t heard before, and hopefully our fans haven’t heard before."

Tickets for Meshuggah's impending tour go on pre-sale via MJR Presents tomorrow, 6 September, before opening up for general sale on Thursday 8 September. For full booking details, see theGuide.
