The sixth annual MMW event takes over the city for eight days this November

Having warmed us up already with the recent revelation that this year's Melbourne Music Week would be commandeering the Former Royal Women's Hospital on Swanston Street as its flagship venue, the Victorian capital's sixth annual industry event has unveiled its expansive full 2015 program, including live performances from the likes of PVT and DZ Deathrays.

Joining those acts — and previously announced drawcards such as Gypsy & The Cat, The Harpoons and Dorsal Fins — at the flagship venue for live showings is a top-tier crop of artists from all over the shop, including Germany's Monolake, US artist Eric Duncan, aka Dr Drunks, Canada's own Cobblestone Jazz, Danish duo Kenton Slash Demon and local prospects including Banoffee and the Afro-inspired sounds of Public Opinion Six, among others.

Also on the ear- (and stomach-)pleasing side of things, you can frolic in the above-ground beer garden and food truck zone to your heart's content, being treated to Lunch Box Sessions from 1-2pm and Afternoon DJs from 5-8pm. The Cooper's-backed beer garden will also put on music to keep you keen, including sets from Rat & Co DJsEdd FisherJim LawrieElla ThompsonWoodes and more, while Roller Jam & Mz Rizk's Block Party will take the weekend to extreme heights with its afternoon of "live music, body rocking and roller skating" on 14 November, before CC:Disco helps bring out the Sunday vibes on 15 November. There will also be the ever-worthwhile Live Music Safari, wherein the city's venues cast open their doors for an evening of free gigs, with a little added help from the Jack Daniel's Future Legends initiative.

"Each year, we work with the local industry on the most anticipated night of the MMW program — Live Music Safari," councillor Rohan Leppert said in a statement. "The success of the Safari is indicative of the world-class venues, musicians and audiences we have here in Melbourne."

More than 50 Melburnian artists will take part in this year's Safari, playing across 14 venues, with this year's spread including Mesa CosaOddiseeQuarter StreetTerrible TruthsSleep DDan WhiteFriendshipsKylie Auldist and Wax'o Paradiso, among several others, which is to say nothing of the spread of "unique" concerts up MMW's sleeve, including shows from Brian Jonestown Massacre and Robert Henke Lumiere II.

Though a key tenet of Melbourne Music Week, music performance is not all that's on offer during the event this November, with organisers having teed up a raft of industry events, exhibitions, film screenings, workshops, panels and more.

If you're into indie events, then MMW's Self Made series could be for you, this year featuring interactive sculpture installation Interwoven, the sensory distortion of Gamer 3D, the niche footwork dance exploration of Mop & Glow, two-stage emerging-artist party Breakout — held at the Old Melbourne Gaol — plus The Great MMW Bike RideNew Orleans Street PartyBrunch Gigs and A Club Called Trish. Parents needn't feel discouraged from coming along — Sunday dance party Club Kids (featuring DJ set from Samson) as well as early-morning party Morning Gloryville and the Learn To DJ sessions at ArtPlay ought to keep the little ones occupied.

Additionally, fans of film will be able to hook into performances from The Orbweavers and Liam Finn, both of which will feature the audio component married with visual accompaniment, in association with the Australian Centre for the Moving Image. Further collaborations abound, with events being held at ACCA, MPavilion, the Docklands Library, The Hellenic Museum, Rooftop Cinema, plus a "delicious journey" with Press Club head chef Luke Croston and much more.

The sixth annual Melbourne Music Week runs from 13-20 November. See the event's website for more information.
