"Our whole budget was spent on dog treats."
You could say that Brisbane's The John Steel Singers like animals. So much so that they've featured their own fluffy best mates Harvey the Golden Cocker Spaniel, Arrow the Dachshund and Boots the cat in their new clip for Weekend Lover, released in conjunction with RSPCA Queensland.
The track itself hails from the band's upcoming third album, titled Midnight At The Plutonium, and stars Harvey and Arrow in a classic Homeward Bound-esque tail tale, longing to see the world. Or rather just to feel the sand on their lolling tongues and padded paws on a Gold Coast beach.
Guitarist Luke McDonald dished some dirt on the stars of the clip: "It was a pretty tense set. The actors (Harvey and Arrow) were very demanding but sometimes you just have to deal with egos to get the performance you need. Our whole budget was spent on dog treats."
"During one filming session Harvey decided to change course and head towards a muddy swamp. Arrow then had to follow him in. I ran down into the mud trying not to get the camera wet, slipped over and attempted to stop the dogs but it was too late, they were covered. Production was shut down for a day."

The best part is that the band are calling for people to donate to RSPCA Queensland and ultimately raise awareness for how important it is to adopt rather than buy from a pet store.
"We really wanted to work with someone outside of the music world who does good things. And our dogs suggested we try something with the RSPCA... they also suggested (insisted) on being the stars of the clip, along with taking 25% of songwriting royalties from our entire recording output... needless to say we agreed on their terms. The other actor that took part Boots (my cat) was unaware of the dogs' demands and only received five cat treats for her time. Please donate."
We just have to give kudos to little Arrow for managing to keep up with Harvey on such short legs. You go, Arrow. And for Harvey for maintaining such beautiful tresses. And Boots, just because.
