Math Rock Loses Two Of Its Finest Within Hours

It's a shitty day for fans of awkward time signatures and casual elitism, as internationally renowned math-rock mainstays You Slut! and Adebisi Shank both announced within hours of each other that they are splitting up.

The Nottingham-bred You Slut! dropped the bombshell first, taking to their Facebook to break the news that, after 10 years and two studio full-lengths (Critical Meat and Medium Bastard), they would be calling it quits.

"This year marks the 10 year anniversary of the birth of You Slut! and in that time we have achieved far more than we could've imagined - though we did only ever imagine playing a one-off gig in Derby," the band wrote.

"Highlights have included: Two great European tours, several excellent UK tours, a Radio One and Kerrang! session, playing to some crazy crowds (we are looking at you Portrush), supporting and being supported by some amazing bands, meeting and making some great friends and luckily just a smattering of arseholes, that frankly amazing video of covers from the cool Japanese band, Gav's infamous pizza and Sam's drunken Hells Angels/Cherry Picker/Stay Puft T-shirt story - both of which occurred in Bristol. And the whole experience was wonderfully topped off by a truly mind-blowing gig at ArcTanGent 2013.

"This is why we have decided that as of today You Slut! are no more."

The band closed out their message with some dedicated thanks to supporters and friends, acknowledging that without their fans, "we'd probably have just sat becoming world beaters at Pro Evolution Soccer".

Irish contemporaries Adebisi Shank followed suit a few hours later, cutting right to the chase with a post titled, "This Is The End Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank" - a reference to their album titles This Is The Album Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank and This Is The Second Album Of A Band Called Adebisi Shank.

The announcement from Adebisi arguably comes as a slightly larger shock than that of You Slut!, as the former band have only recently released third LP. No prizes for guessing what it's called.

"Dear friends, we hereby announce the end of a band called Adebisi Shank," they wrote. "From the three of us to all of you, thank you for coming with us on this crazy journey.

"Life and music moves on - Lar is making music in All Tvvins, Vin is producing/mixing, working on video games and other cool stuff as VMC Sound, and is also one half of Speed of Snakes. Mick will continue to train for his UFC career," they continued.

"To any kids starting bands we offer one piece of advice - play music you love, with people you love, for the people you love."

Adebisi Shank have two final shows in Ireland, and one international commitment, before they will officially disband - but the wheels are in motion, and math rock stands two acclaimed torchbearers down as a result of the double dissolution.
