Mass Debuts Expected On ARIA Albums Chart

There will be as many as nine new albums in the top 20 to 25 ARIA Albums Chart spots this week, as Kings Of Leon and Drake look set to lead the invasion.

The top ten has been volatile territory in recent weeks and midweek charts are indicating that it will be even more so this week. Kings Of Leon's Mechanical Bull looks favourite to dethrone Keith Urban's Fuse at number one, but Drake's Nothing Was The Same and Jason Derulo's Tattoos can't be discounted.

The current figures are showing that the top releases are still very close, with Jessie J's Alive, Dream Theatre's Dream Theatre, Grouplove's Spreading Rumours, Metallica's Through The Never, Eskimo Joe's Wastelands and Chvrches' The Bones Of What You Believe all in with genuine top 20 shots. The exact make-up of the top 20 will likely not be known until just before the chart period finishes, given how close they are at this stage.

This week's debuts won't stop there either, with Cher's Closer To The Truth, The Bloody Beetroots' Hide, Adalita's All Day Venus, Alan Jackson's The Bluegrass Album, Sting's The Last Ship and Krewella's Get Wet all looking at top 50 debuts. The large number of weekly debuts will likely continue through to October as the industry hits its peak time for album releases.

Nirvana's classic In Utero album will shoot back up the charts thanks to its 20th anniversary reissue, while the on-tour One Direction will see their releases climb well as well.

The ARIA Singles Chart will see far less debuts this week, with Birdy's Wings and Ylvis' viral hit The Fox (they've been signed to Warner on the back of it) the only two likely releases at this stage. The main moves will come from existing titles, including John Newman's Love Me Again (which will rise from eight into the top five), Laneway band Haim's The Wire, Britney Spears' Work Bitch and currently touring Rudimental's Right Here.
