Mary J. Blige called out a heckler who was booing her during a recent residency show in Las Vegas, calling them an “idiot” and asking for them to be removed from the venue.

The incident took place during a concert at MGM Resorts’ Dolby Live Theatre on Wednesday, 28 October. TMZ reports that the Grammy Award-winning R&B icon was near the two-hour mark of her set when an audience member started booing her between songs.

In footage shared by the publication, Blige addressed the heckler. “To the bitch that’s booing, you didn’t have to come here,” she said. “I hope someone sees you and politely removes you.”

The Family Affair hitmaker later said, “The fuck are you spending your money for — idiot!” She then politely asked for the heckler to be removed from the venue.

After the incident, Blige returned to performing. People reports she brought out Wyclef Jean as a special guest, and the pair unveiled their collaboration, 911.

At the time of publication, Blige hasn’t shared a statement about the incident.

The R&B star launched into her Las Vegas residency, Mary J. Blige: My Life, My Story, in May. The shows conclude in February 2027 after 20 dates.

Upon announcing the residency earlier this year, Blige commented in a statement, “I’ve been so excited to announce this Vegas residency. Creating a show like this has been something I’ve always wanted to do.”

She added, “It’s a chance to get my fans together from all over – different cities, states, and countries – to experience something together. My Life, My Story will be just that – with some surprises for my fans that have been there through it all.”

Mary J. Blige’s most recent album, her 15th record, Gratitude, was released in November 2024. The year before, she indicated that it would be her final record.

Speaking on the themes of Gratitude, Blige said, “The overall theme is enjoying life and understanding that, again, life is what inspires me, whether I take the good with the bad.

“I look at every lesson as a blessing, and I understand that I’m not the only one on the earth going through things. I celebrate my triumph, and I work through my hard times. So, the album is going to be fun in that perspective.”
