Sony Music Australia Appoints New Senior Director Of A&R

Sony Music Australia has today announced the appointment of Markell Casey as the company's new Senior Director Of A&R. 

The news was announced by Chairman and CEO of Sony Music Entertainment Australia and New Zealand Denis Handlin AO this morning. 

Casey joins the business after five years as the senior creative director with Pulse Music Group in Los Angeles where he was responsible for signing artists including YEBBA, James Blake, Whethan, Jai Wolf, Lido and Kah-Lo.

Prior to Pulse, Casey held roles with both Warner Music Group and Virgin Records in the UK. While working with Virgin, Casey signed artists like MNEK, CHVRCHES, Kali Uchis and Circa Waves.

In 2018, Casey appeared as a speaker at both Brisbane's BIGSOUND and Melbourne's CHANGES events.

"I am excited to join the Sony Music Australia team as this is an exciting new chapter in my life both professionally and personally, and I am looking forward to working with the team," said Casey. 

"I have always followed Australian artists and music closely, and it is now an honour to work with some of the best artists in the industry with the goal of growing their careers at home and overseas."

Casey will be based in Sydney and will report to Pat Handlin (VP, A&R, ANZ).
