Man Charged Over Assault Of Transgender Musician

Male arrested on Tuesday afternoon.

A 23-year-old male has been charged by police in relation to the alleged bashing of transgender musician Stephanie McCarthy on Friday night in Sydney.

According to Sydney Morning Herald the man was arrested on Tuesday afternoon outside of Newtown Police Station.

McCarthy's band Love Maul have shared a post to their Facebook this morning in response to the arrest: "So they got one of them so far and one of the fuckers to go. Thanks so much for all your support at this time, Stephanie really appreciates it xx".

It is alleged that McCarthy was the victim of an unprovoked attack at the Town Hall Hotel in Newtown on Friday as she was waiting to go on stage to perform with her band, when a group of males began to verbally and physically assault her.

The 23-year-old man arrested on Tuesday has been granted conditional bail to appear at Newtown Local Court on Jul 9.
