MigosA month after Migos rapper Takeoff was shot and killed in Houston, police have arrested a second person in connection with the shooting that also wounded two other people.
As reported by NPR, Patrick Xavier Clark went into custody peacefully, Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said. The police also arrested a man named Cameron Joshua, who was charged with illegally having a gun when Takeoff was shot, but Police Sergeant Michael Burrow said investigators believe Clark's gunfire killed the rapper.
Takeoff, born Kirsnick Khari Ball, was the youngest member of the Grammy-nominated hip-hop group Migos from suburban Atlanta, which also featured his uncle Quavo and cousin Offset.
Following his death, rumours initially spread on Twitter that the rapper was shot and killed after an altercation over a game of dice at a private event. Some users at the scene tweeted that Takeoff was "minding his business" the whole night. Police said Takeoff was "an innocent bystander" in the violence.
Takeoff was a legend in Atlanta rap music as a critical member of the pioneering rap group Migos. Takeoff and fellow Migos member Quavo recently released their collaborative project, Only Built For Infinity Links.
Takeoff’s legacy is one that should be remembered as one of the most influential figures in contemporary rap and pop music, so much so that if you were a fan of any music, you felt the cultural shift that he and his group were a part of.
In 2016 he was a big reason that rap became the biggest genre in the world with the release of Migos' album Culture, pioneering a sound that would become a staple in almost every commercially successful song at the time. Atlanta was and still is one of the cultural and musical capitals of the world, thanks to Takeoff’s work and the work of his peers.
