Conviction has been overturned.

In a shocking turn of events, Brendan Dassey, the man convicted for assisting in the murder of Teresa Halbach in 2005 as documented on the Netflix documentary Making A Murderer, has reportedly had his conviction overturned and has been ordered to be released from prison.

As TMZ reports, a federal judge ruled that Dassey's constitutional rights were violated when he was interrogated about the murder of Halbach and that officers took advantage of the then-16-year-old without an adult present.

The judge said authorities aggravated the situation by giving Dassey false hope they were working to help him walk free.

"Dassey's borderline to below average intellectual ability likely made him more susceptible to coercive pressures than a peer of higher intellect," the judge said.

Dassey's first lawyer, Len Kachinsky, who allowed his client to be interviewed without him being present, has also been slammed by the judge who called Kachinsky's actions "indefensible".

The nephew of Steven Avery could reportedly walk free in 90 days if the Wisconsin Attorney General's office do not refile judges, however they are yet to make a decision on this.

The news comes only weeks after it was announced a second season of the hugely popular series is currently in production
