"It’s a story about a girl rejecting a man harassing her in a nightclub"

Accompanying the release of their latest single, Girl Power, today, Newcastle pop punk outfit Maids have recently announced a series of east coast shows for this April.

A coarse yet upbeat combination of heavy bass lines, unrestrained drums and light vocals sees Girl Power tick boxes in terms of musical variety, while at the same time holding a message in relation to misogyny throughout modern pop culture.

According to drummer and lead vocalist Sean Cook, "It’s a story about a girl rejecting a man harassing her in a nightclub. Girls are often sexually objectified, particularly in hip hop, and I wanted to poke fun at the sleazy nature of a lot of men."

Having already shared the stage with the likes of DZ Deathrays, British India, Kingswood and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, you can catch Maids on their headlining Girl Power tour as it kicks off 8 April in Melbourne.

They'll play at The Old Bar in Melbourne, Captain Cook Hotel in Sydney on 9 April, Miami Shark Bar on the Gold Coast on 22 April, The Milk Factory in Brisbane on 23 April and The Small Ballroom in Newcastle on 24 April.
