Mahershala Ali, Lupita Nyong'o & Danny Glover Revealed As Stars Of Tidal Enigma '4:44'

Lauded actors Mahershala Ali, Lupita Nyong'o and Danny Glover have been named as the stars of Tidal and US telco Sprint's upcoming project 4:44, not that anyone is totally sure exactly what 4:44 is.

As Pitchfork notes, a trailer for 4:44 — which has been enigmatically advertised the past few days in the US and across the internet, including our own humble website — landed during the NBA Finals match, ostensibly showing Ali (Moonlight, Luke Cage) and Glover (Lethal Weapon, Operation Dumbo Drop, whattt) as a boxer and his coach, respectively.

Nyong'o's involvement is revealed by a closing credits card, aaaand… that's about all the concrete information that currently exists about 4:44.

The best guess going is that it's evidently some kind of Tidal-and/or-Sprint-customer-exclusive movie, especially given the involvement of actors of the calibre of the three named in the trailer and the fact that it's clearly been given a classification rating of NC-17.

Nonetheless — as The Fader mentions — there remains speculation that it could be a visual album from Tidal founder Jay Z, though honestly that seems the less likely of the two outcomes.

"Excited to bring @Sprint customers exclusive content through our partnership with @TIDALHiFi," Sprint chief executive Marcelo Claure tweeted alongside the trailer, promising "more news coming tomorrow".
