Magic Dirt are celebrating 25 years of their hit single, Dirty Jeans, with an epic, nostalgic tour across the country.

Beginning with a sold-out show at Melbourne’s The Tote on Friday, 7 November, the band continue the 12-show run with shows across South Australia, Victoria, and New South Wales, ending at Sydney’s Crowbar on Saturday, 31 January.

Dirty Jeans was released as a single from the Melbourne group’s 2000 album, What Are Rock Stars Doing Today. It peaked at #68 on the Australian Singles Chart, becoming their first charting single. It also polled at #12 on the triple j Hottest 100 of 2000.

“This Nov/Dec, we’re hitting the road to mark 25 years since ‘Dirty Jeans’ first made its mark,” the band wrote on social media.

“Born from a scrappy cassette demo in a Melbourne share house, it became our first charting single and a career-defining anthem - packed with handclaps, tropical guitar licks and hooks galore!”

They continued, “Originally scribbled down and taped by Adalita in 1999, the song was nearly lost before being produced by Greg Wales and Dean Turner into the pop-grunge classic you know today.

“Released in July 2000 on our third album, What Are Rock Stars Doing Today, it hit #68 on the ARIA National Charts, #11 on the ARIA Alternative Top 20 and #12 in the triple j Hottest 100 - not bad for a rough-as-guts bedroom demo.”
