The “Beat Konducta” is touring Australia with labelmates J Rocc and Egon in November
Hip hop producer extraordinaire Madlib, is returning to Australian shores for the first time in eight years. The Madlib Medicine Show Tour will see the “Beat Konducta” bringing with him label mates J Rocc and Egon from the sensational underground imprint Stones Throw Records for November gigs in Brisbane, Sydney, Perth and Melbourne.
One of the most in-demand producers in modern hip-hop, Madlib's beats have backed an intimidating list of vocalists and MCs, including MF DOOM (as Madvillian), Mos Def, Ghostface Killah, De La Soul, Talib Kweli, Erykah Badu, Guilty Simpson and the late, great J Dilla (as Jaylib). His productions blur the boundaries between hip-hop, worldbeat, jazz and turntablism and his live DJ sets draw on his huge back catalog of extensive collaborations and Madlib Medicine Show mixtapes. While he's unarguably one of hip-hop's MVPs, Madlib describes himself as a “DJ first, producer second, and MC last,” and his live show digs deep into the crates for the best jams from the 60s onwards.
Along for the ride are two partners in crime from Stones Throw Records. J Rocc, the founder of DJ collective The World Famous Beat Junkies will be representing his crew and laying phat beats from his 2011 slab Some Cold Rock Stuf. Egon, one of the original founders of Stones Throw, who now heads up his own label Now-Again, will infuse each evening with his potent brew of classic funk, international beats and mind-bending psychedelic jams.
This is three of the world's best freestyle DJs doing what they do best for four nights in October. Be assured this one's going to sell out quickly from Thursday 30 August. Dates are below; don't miss out.
