"Sadly I dont think any amount of party treats will make this mix sound bearable or enjoyable."
It's been an interesting year to be an M.I.A fan.
In October she faced backlash for a Tweet that compared the COVID vaccines to Alex Jones' falsehoods surrounding Sandy Hook. Earlier in the year she also Tweeted that if she had "to choose the vaccine or chip I’m gonna choose death.”
The 47 year old Sri Lankan rapper then followed the tweets with her fourth full length album MATA which landed with mixed reviews.
She's now gone and performed a Boiler Room DJ set which has been met with seriously mixed reviews, with many in the comments section calling it the "worst Boiler Room ever."
The set is, interesting, to say the least and sees M.I.A sloppily mix through a range of tracks and samples. While the track selection is excellent and enthralling, there's a lot to say about her mixing abilities. At the end of the day it's all about the energy in the room and not what someone standing in the corner is thinking while they stroke their chin. Even if the mixes are bad, she's having fun and so is everyone around her.
The comments were savage however with fans saying, "This is a GREAT way of showing real DJ'ing actually takes (technical) skill and practice. Thank you MIA, sincerely, everybody who loves good DJ'ing."

"Every track is amazing. So much for transitions but stillllllll she's got a ton of taste with track selection."
"I have a Traktor s2 too... now, after seeing this I know my several weeks of halfassed practice are enough for me to play Boiler Room."
"That was a set of music yes."
"I can imagine the debates in Boiler Room HQ about whether to upload this."
"Seems her ability to beat match was M.I.A too… it reminds me of pre’s at university, when 6 people would queue songs with different bpms on Spotify."
"For me, by far, the most uncomfortable, forced and made up to be something "cool" Boiler Room of all. But i still really like her songs."
