Kiwi indie-pop artist Logan has revealed the details for his upcoming debut mixtape, Lost In Translation, alongside a wicked new single titled Wow.

The record is due out on April 12 via Mushroom imprint Ivy League Records. Wow arrives as our fifth preview of the effort, following Logan’s trio of 2023 singles – Stop & Stare (which hit the airwaves last May), Huh (which followed in July) and Famous (rounding things out in October) – as well as last month’s Movies.

In a press release, Logan described Wow as “a tongue-in-cheek song about having a wild crush on your neighbour, and the feelings that follow”. He went on to explain that it’s inspired by rockabilly greats and even has “a very classic rockabilly rhythm” of its own, but is bolstered by “‘80s electronic sounds and synths to switch up the feeling completely”.

“If I’m totally honest,” Logan added, “the song is intentionally not complicated. It’s a simple song with a simple message!”

Wow arrives alongside a music video shot by Luis Campbell in Queensland’s Burleigh Heads region – head here to have a look at it.

Touching on the broader concept behind Lost In Translation, Logan said the nine-track project is “intentionally quite lo-fi”, comprising “songs I wrote and recorded in my bedroom, speakers playing aloud, wall to wall, as I’d record freestyles over guitar loops”.

He added: “I have sat in my bedroom and had the best of times and the worst of times, this mixtape really expresses that, it’s up and down, playful and vulnerable. It’s a taste of rock’n’roll, ballad, alternative R&B, pop, funk, and not knowing what I’m doing. That’s why I call it a mixtape.”
