Troye SivanNineteen-year-old South African-born, Australia-bred actor, singer and YouTuber Troye Sivan has unveiled his debut single, Happy Little Pill, as the first taste of his forthcoming first EP, TRXYE, which is due for release on Friday, August 15, via EMI Australia.
Sivan first came to wider attention in 2009 with his role as young Logan in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, going on to star in the recently completed Spud cinematic trilogy, based on the novel series of the same name. He’s also amassed a considerable following on YouTube, which makes his transition into music probably one of the best-equipped in history in terms of existing fanbases (you know, in the vicinity of a casual 91 million views on the video streaming site, not to mention the rest of his impressive social media presence).
He’ll have no dramas picking up a raft new fans, either, if Happy Little Pill is any indication – with this ethereal, soulful, surprisingly assured effort, Sivan wears his self-acknowledged influences (Lorde, Lana Del Rey, Haim, Frank Ocean) on his sleeve and makes a distinct sonic statement about what we can expect from the prodigious performer moving forward.

Sivan has previously dabbled in the musical realm with his very first public effort The Fault In Our Stars, which he released last year via Soundcloud and has since re-worked for the TRXYE EP. The song is still available for purchase – all proceeds are donated to a Perth-based children’s hospital.
Yeah, he would be an awesome human being in addition to being more talent than man. That’s fair, God. That’s really fair.
Keep your eyes peeled for future news to emerge from the Troye Sivan camp as the EP makes its way into punters’ hands and ears next month, and the demand for a live tour inevitably rises further.
