And watch the third performance of their residency for David Letterman

More Foo Fighters More Foo Fighters

Ubiquitous US rockers the Foo Fighters have unveiled the first full taste of new material from their forthcoming eighth full-length record, Sonic Highways, in the form of fresh cut Something From Nothing.

The track, in keeping with the geographically diverse nature of the album's recording process, was laid down in Chicago under the expert guidance of desk-whiz Steve Albini, and finds the veteran Foos kicking off with a restrained aesthetic before resoundingly demonstrating that they have lost none of the drive and vitality for which they have become renowned over their previous seven studio efforts, while showing they've picked up a few groove-flavoured tricks along the way. Have a listen below:

The single drops only a day or two before the band's hotly touted HBO-produced documentary about the making of the album begins airing in the States, with Australian free-to-air TV standing ready to receive an ultra-express screening tomorrow, October 18, from 4.30pm on GO!.

The band are currently completing a week-long residency for US late-night TV host David Letterman's Late Show - check out their emotional rendition of Miracle - which moves the veteran host to tears - and their rockin' cover of Polk Salad Annie featuring swamp-rock icon Tony Joe White, and then watch the first two performances here.

If that's left you a little misty-eyed, check out this pretty wonderful law-firm skit the band also peformed on the show to lift your spirits.
