Singer Lisa Marie Presley, daughter of "The King" Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley, has died after being rushed to hospital from possible cardiac arrest, TMZ initially reported.

Priscilla has shared a statement, "It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us. She was the most passionate, strong and loving woman I have ever known."

In a statement issued to People hours ago following the news of Lisa Marie being admitted to the ICU, Priscilla said, "My beloved daughter Lisa Marie was rushed to the hospital. She is now receiving the best care. Please keep her and our family in your prayers."

She added, "We feel the prayers from around the world and ask for privacy at this time."

TMZ reported that Lisa Marie Presley was admitted to the ICU after suffering cardiac arrest, with sources telling the publication that she "is in an induced coma and in critical condition."

Lisa Marie's housekeeper found the singer unresponsive in her bedroom and her ex-husband, Danny Keough, performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Lisa Marie Presley attended the Golden Globe Awards earlier this week, watching Austin Butler win the Best Actor award for his portrayal of Elvis. She said about his performance, "I really didn’t know what to do with myself after I saw it. I had to take, like, five days to process it because it was so incredible and so spot on and just so authentic."

Harry Styles was a serious contender to land the lead role in this year's Elvis biopic, directed by Baz Luhrmann.

Instead, Luhrmann cast Austin Butler, revealing on the radio podcast Fitzy & Wippa why he chose Butler over Styles.

“Harry is a really talented actor. I would work on something with him [but] the real issue with Harry is, he’s Harry Styles,” Luhrmann said.

"He’s already an icon. Harry and I came to a place, genuinely; I mean, he was just desperate to put the suit on and explore. He’s such a great spirit, and I have nothing but great things to say about Harry Styles.

"The thing about Austin was that he will tell you himself, I didn’t pick him: It’s as if he was drawn like the role drew him in because he was almost born to play it.

"You know, we can talk about it now; he like loses his mom at the same age that Elvis did. He sends a video to me with this thing and… He just happened like two years non-stop, living and breathing as Elvis. He’s now going through a sort of; it’s like, deprogramming thing because he’s been a long time since he’s known who he was.”

The biopic stars Austin Butler and Oscar-winning Tom Hanks. It explores the life and music of Elvis Presley (played by Butler), seen through the lens of his enigmatic manager, Colonel Tom Parker (played by Hanks).

The story sees the relationship evolve and span 20 years, from Presley's rise to fame to his unprecedented stardom.
