"The Stratocaster was my gateway into music and I love seeing my LEGO design with the stand. I am hoping that other guitar fans get as much joy out of building it as I have.”

LEGO: what can't it do? No LEGO or guitar collection will be complete without the recently announced LEGO Ideas Fender Stratocaster set, featuring the iconic axe reimagined in LEGO bricks.

At times the guitar of choice for artists like Buddy Holly, Eric Clapton, George Harrison, Jimi Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan, the Fender Strat became infamous for its smooth lines and versatility, with the beloved guitar ultimately embraced as an essential weapon-of-choice for artists across the genre-sphere, from rock to jazz, metal and country.

But whether you're a riff machine, a guitar hoarder or a LEGO enthusiast, the freshly launched LEGO model of the 1970s Fender Stratocaster is a must-have for any collection, with options to build either a red or black version of the iconic guitar - and a few extra surprises to crank things up to 11.

Created by Slovakian Lego Ideas fan designer Tomáš Letenay, the idea for the LEGO Strat was originally submitted as a design for the LEGO Ideas Music To Our Ears competition; but the idea was so beloved by the Lego Group review board, that the creation was snapped up and commissioned, making many a musician's dream come true alongside designer Letenay's.

"I used to play electric guitar when I was a teenager and I always dreamed of owning a Fender Stratocaster - but I could never afford it," Letenay said in Fender's announcement this week.

Featuring six strings, poseable tuning pegs and a tremolo arm for good measure, the LEGO Fender also features a folding display stand, foot pedal and, most importantly, an amp. And for the purists out there, the amplifier's back and top covers can be removed to reveal its inner speaker code, wiring and other intricate details.

"The competition on LEGO Ideas gave me the chance to create it in LEGO bricks," Letenay continued. "The Stratocaster was my gateway into music and I love seeing my LEGO design with the stand. I am hoping that other guitar fans get as much joy out of building it as I have.”

“The Fender Stratocaster was designed to help artists unlock their creativity, and decades later, the model continues to pioneer the future of guitar playing with its distinct sound and undeniable impact on popular music,” said Richard Bussey, VP, Accessories, Lifestyle and Licensing for Fender.

“As the Stratocaster has developed a cult following through the years, so has the LEGO Group. Bringing these two brands together marks an iconic musical moment for a passionate group of guitar and LEGO brick lovers.”

The LEGO Ideas Fender Stratocaster set will be available from Friday 1 October from LEGO Stores and online.
