The musician passed away in a motor vehicle accident on Sunday.

The lead guitarist of Indigenous punk rock band Lonely Boys is confirmed to have passed away following a motor vehicle accident on Sunday.

The six-piece outfit garnered national attention after being announced as the support act at Queens Of The Stone's Darwin concert last year, while they also performed at this year's Barunga Festival.

In 2016, Lonely Boys won the NT Rock Song of the Year for Murray Island from their acclaimed EP, The Hunter.

Skinnyfish Music confirmed the news in a statement today.

"He was much loved by his community and throughout wider South East Arnhem Land," the statement reads.

"He was always a feature at The Barunga Festival and had strength of character and a sharp wit that would charm anyone from local Ngukurr family to Adam Briggs and Josh Homme.

"Our label will miss him dearly as will the vast NT music industry and we send our heartfelt condolences to his family."
