“This event encourages everyone to make space for diverse voices to be heard."

UNSW’s inaugural Diversity Fest will take place later this month, with a handful of local artists confirmed for Step Aside, a special gig supporting diversity in the music industry.

Taking place at The Roundhouse on 26 September, Step Aside will feature Laura Jean, Sports Bra, Rainbow Chan, EGOISM and DJ Gen Collier.

The event, which takes its name from the anthemic song by Sleater-Kinney, will shine a light on the gender diversity gap, specifically the lack of female representation across festival line-ups, radio play and awards nights.

“This event encourages everyone to make space for diverse voices to be heard and will highlight the power of music to unite us despite our differences,” organisers said.
