After cutting its teeth in North America, Canada and New Zealand, innovative artist development program Red Bull Sound Select will be heading to Australia in 2016 for a series of monthly shows, which will be curated by I OH YOU's Johann Ponniah and Laneway Festival's Travis Banko.
Each monthly showcase will feature a handpicked line-up of three acts — one headliner and two Red Bull Sound Select emerging artists — the first to take place at Sydney's Chippendale Hotel on 29 April, featuring WA outfit Methyl Ethel and supporting acts, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Flowertruck.
"We are really psyched to be one of the curators for the Australian arm of Red Bull Sound Select," Ponniah said.
"As fans of what the program has been achieving internationally, we’re incredibly excited to be a part of bringing it to Australian shores. Just hoping we can keep pushing the envelope like other curators have been internationally and program some of the best up and coming talent that Australia has to offer (and there’s a lot of it!)."
Red Bull Sound Select shows will take place in Sydney on the last Friday of every month. RSVP tickets are $3, while cover charge at the venues will cost punters $10.
