A new film from Aussie hip hop artist L-FRESH The LION has caught the attention of Sydney film festival Made In The West in a big way.

The Western Sydney rapper's YouTube Creators For Change project, Culture Strong, won the category for Best Editor (Joey Hunter) and scored Runner-up for Best Film.

"For anybody who knows anything about me, you know how much Western Sydney means to me," L-Fresh said.

"So, to be recognised in the area, I don't take that for granted."

Meanwhile, Fresh has also gotten involved in another incredibly important project regarding family violence.

A statement released with the video says that while "one women is killed per week in Australia due to family violence... research on dowry abuse has shown that violence against women is prevalent and an accepted part of Indian family life".

To raise awareness, Fresh has teamed with social worker Jatinder Kaur for a new video where they recite the poem, I Love You, She Said; watch the video below.
