Kylie Minogue has been honoured with a commemorative star at Melbourne Park, which pays tribute to her 35 years of performing at Rod Laver Arena.
The Padam Padam singer received the star while home in Melbourne for four sold-out shows at Rod Laver Arena. 35 years ago this month (February 1990), Kylie first performed at Rod Laver Arena (then the National Tennis Centre).
Prior to the Tension Tour, Kylie had already sold over 350,000 tickets at the venue, but with her current tour, she’s added upwards of a further 36,000 ticket sales. Kylie is one of the most successful artists to ever perform at Rod Laver Arena.
Melbourne Park CEO John Harnden AM unveiled the star to Kylie, her friends and family on the afternoon of her fourth show at the venue for her Tension Tour (Saturday, 22 February). Kylie’s star will be found in the forecourt in front of Rod Laver Arena, adjacent to the statue of Frontier Touring co-founder Michael Gudinski. Frontier Touring has promoted every Kylie tour to date in Australia.
In a statement, Kylie said of receiving the commemorative star, “It’s hard to believe it’s been 35 years since I first stepped on stage at this venue, and I’m honoured to be acknowledged in this way in my hometown of Melbourne. It seems appropriate that MG will be watching over my star each day. I’m incredibly thankful to all the fans that have attended my shows over the years.”
Harnden added, “Kylie has a longstanding and record-breaking association with Melbourne Park, and it’s only fitting we celebrate her amazing legacy with this star, cementing her name in the history of this great destination for live events.”
