Korn frontman leads coalition against BP

Jonathan Davis of nu-metal pioneers Korn has organised a major boycott of the oil corporation BP in light of the recent Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Korn have led a coalition of other high-profile musicians including Lady Gaga, Rise Against and Disturbed in boycotting the petroleum giant by committing "to avoid the use of fuel sold by BP or its affiliates on their upcoming tours for 2010" according to an official press release. Estimates are that over 100 vehicles will participate in the boycott over the upcoming American summer.

Encouraging as many stars to join the boycott as possible, Davis spoke out stating that "This is the worst thing that has ever happened to the environment in U.S. history. From everything we're hearing about now, it's become clear that BP cut corners to put profit ahead of safety. The message we are sending should tell all the oil companies to spend the money and take the necessary precautions to make sure this doesn't happen again."

In a recent interview with SuicideGirls.com Davis spoke at length about the boycott and his "disgust" for the company's irresponsible conduct in regards to prevention and clean-up of the spill which has severely affected the southwestern coastline of the United States.

"We're not going to put them out of business or anything, it's just [about] trying to say that you need to be held accountable for destroying these people's lives. Why didn't [they] spend that extra money to make sure that this didn't happen?"

"They need to be held accountable to make sure the safety measures are there."
