Kingswood Gunning For Top Ten Chart Debut

Melbourne rock outfit Kingswood are looking good for a top ten debut on the ARIA Album Charts, a position that could well be a top five if they have a strong second half of the week.

The band released their debut album Microscopic Wars last week and the midweek chart figures are showing it as the top Australian debut in the current chart. Ahead of them are Ariana Grande's My Everything, which is a fair bet to topple Hilltop Hoods' Walking Under Stars for the top spot, and Royal Blood's self-titled record, which should be a top three.

New Zealand duo Broods are also in the top five/ten mix with Evergreen.

Judging by the midweek figures and the competition around them it's unlikely that the four-piece Kingswood will challenge for a top three spot, but as sales numbers come in from around the country before Friday evening they could embed themselves well into the top ten.

The other Australian albums looking at debuts this week are Adam Harvey's Family Life and Briggs's Sheplife, which are both in the 15-20 region at this stage. Internationally Opeth's Pale Communion is a top 15 hope, while Wiz Khalifa's Blacc Hollywood and DragonForce's Maximum Overload are outside the top 20.

One of the big stories of this week's album chart may come from an unlikely source, with a Rodriguez tour announcement and documentary screening on SBS prompting three albums to reenter the top 50. Cold Fact is the biggest mover of any album this week, with Searching For Sugar Man and Coming From Reality following it into the charts - and maybe even the top 30.

Iggy Azalea's The New Classic is selling well this week thanks to exposure from MTV's Video Music Awards. Expect Gabrielle Aplin's English Rain to move up as well.

On paper Taylor Swift's new single Shake It Off looks favourite to take top spot on the ARIA Singles Chart this week. Currently sitting at five and with a week of high exposure, the midweek figures are indeed showing a sales boost - but it might not be quite enough to get her to number one. Tracks around the top three like current number one Meghan Trainor's All About The Bass and G.R.L.'s Ugly Heart will still take some dislodging.

The top debut in the singles chart will come from homegrown hero Vance Joy, although expect Wasted Time to be around the top 40 mark come Saturday evening.

Nicki Minaj's Anaconda will move up from 22 after the track's controversial video caused an tidal wave of internet opinions, while Gabrielle Aplin's Please Don't Say You Love Me is on the move from 19. Sia's Chandelier will spend its 24th week in the chart by moving up from 36. It's previously peaked at two.

Becky G's Shower and Dean Ray's Reckless may sneak into the top 50 on debut.
