Band take to Goat Island

Kings Of Leon finally took to Sydney Harbour's Goat Island last night to perform an intimate show to competition winners and invited guests after a false start earlier in the week.

While rain and wind may have caused a postponement the day before, much to the dismay of the tireless production crew, Sydney was bathed in sunshine for the second attempt. Taking to the stage at 7pm, about half-an-hour after intended, the band rattled through a full set, taking tracks from their four most recent albums in particular.

Filmed by Channel [V], it was the first time a concert had been held on Goat Island since the music television company hosted Foo Fighters in 2011. On that night the band made the most of the occasion and played a four-hour set, but Kings Of Leon stuck to their guns and delivered a set very typical of the band. After becoming one of the world's biggest rock bands with Sex On Fire, it's easy to forget how strong their back catalogue is below the surface – there was no filler here.

Minimal on-stage flare and banter between the crowd, they didn't play up to the occasion and let the setting – and their songs – speak for themselves. You couldn't fault either. Nor the world's greatest tattoo.
