Acclaimed sonic innovators Kiasmos will make their debut at the Sydney Opera House on the 12th of July, bringing their eclectic fusion of electronic and orchestral sounds to the Concert Hall.
The Reykjavik-based duo – made up of BAFTA-winning and Grammy-nominated Icelandic composer Ólafur Arnalds and Faroese musician Janus Rasmussen – will showcase their new album II at their upcoming show.
The release is Kiasmos’ first album in ten years, marking the prosperous evolution of their signature sound. Made in different corners of the world, with field recordings of Bali’s natural environment, the album draws from UK dance music and unorthodox sonic arrangements in order to pursue a sound that the duo has coined ‘emotional rave’.
“We’re incredibly honoured to be playing the Sydney Opera House for the first time,” they said. “This is our first proper Australian tour in eight years, and we can’t wait to be back. This is a seated show, but we doubt that will last long. See you soon!"
The pair first made a splash with their 2009 EP Thrown before receiving praise from all ends for their 2014 self-titled debut album. The project reimagined minimal techno with classical flourishes, inciting a riveting listening experience for anyone who opened up their ears to it.

Kiasmos’ perpetual ability to explore and stretch the lengths of sound have made them one of the most compelling electronic acts of the 21st century. Over the last 15 years, the duo have been known trailblazers in the global techno community, pushing the boundaries with their blend of ambient soundscapes and pulsing beats.
“We're thrilled to welcome Ólafur Arnalds’ and Janus Rasmussen’s stunning Kiasmos project for their long-overdue Opera House debut,” Sydney Opera House’s Head of Contemporary Music, Ben Marshall said.
“The emotional power of their intoxicating sound pulsing through the vaulted recesses of the monumental Concert Hall promises to be a cathartic, joyous moment for fans of forward-thinking electronica."
Kiasmos will take over the Concert Hall at the Sydney Opera House from 9 PM on Saturday July 12th.
