Khruangbin To Return To Australia In Early 2025

Texan psych-funk trio Khruangbin will return to Australia this summer, announcing East Coast dates for late February and early March 2025.

The band, which last toured in Australia in November and December 2022, appeared on the inaugural Harvest Rock festival line-up in Adelaide and played three nights at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, as well as huge venues in Fremantle, Brisbane, and Melbourne.

For the forthcoming tour, Khruangbin will be celebrating their first album in four years, A LA SALA (which translates to “To the Room” in Spanish), released in April of this year.

Comprising bassist Laura Lee Ochoa, drummer Donald ‘DJ’ Johnson Jr., and guitarist Mark ‘Marko’ Speer, Khruangbin will begin their tour at Melbourne’s Margaret Court Arena (Tuesday, 25 February) before playing at Brisbane’s Riverstage (Sunday, 2 March), and Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion (Wednesday, 5 March). Three pre-sales will be available from 9 am AEST on Monday, 5 August: Frontier Members, Penny Drop, and Khru Club Members pre-sale. The general sale opens on Wednesday, 7 August, at 9 am AEST. You can find more ticketing information on the Frontier Touring website.

Of course, Khruangbin won’t be touring Australia alone. Promoters Frontier Touring announced that special guests Hermanos Gutiérrez, the instrumental guitar duo of Swiss/Ecuadorian brothers Alejandro and Estevan Gutiérrez, will open all shows.

In a live review of the trio’s set at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall, The Music’s Shaun Colnan remarked on the moment the audience realised it was time to dance:

There was tension persisting throughout this set as the intimate and meditative jams melded with a populace desperate to party and groove. To diffuse the tension, the band launched into a long-winded medley that sampled a smorgasbord of songs, nodding to the crowd with hints of INXS and AC/DC as well as a mix of 90s hip hop, which included A Tribe Called Quest and Pharoahe Monch.
