If ever you needed proof of Angie McMahon’s global reach, one need only look toward Kelly Clarkson, who covered the Naarm/Melbourne musician’s Letting Go for the ongoing ‘Kellyoke’ segment of her daily talk show.
Ever since Clarkson introduced The Kelly Clarkson Show back in 2019, she’s opened each episode with a cover version of a song as part of her ‘Kellyoke’ segment. With close to 1,000 episodes of the show having aired so far, there’s been plenty of room for musical discovery.
Alongside classic tracks from the likes of Supergrass, The Outfield, Tom Odell, and Counting Crows in recent weeks, Clarkson has also tackled huge Aussie names, including artists such as The Paper Kites, Vance Joy, Sia, and Keith Urban.
Now, we can add Angie McMahon to that list.
For her Wednesday, February 26th episode, Clarkson opened her show with a mesmerising rendition of Letting Go, originally released on McMahon’s 2023 ARIA Award-winning album Light, Dark, Light Again.
As is typical, Clarkson gave the Victorian artist an appropriate plug, naming the album the track was from and even name-checking McMahon’s 2024 companion EP, Light Sides.

This isn’t the first time McMahon has scored some impressive placement on US television. Late last year, the television show Shrinking also included Letting Go in its broadcast, with the track soundtracking a pivotal scene, which also featured Harrison Ford, Heidi Gardner, and Wendie Malick
Debuting in January 2023, Shrinking was created by Bill Lawrence, and actors Jason Segel and Brett Goldstein, who also appear on the show. Lawrence, who is responsible for shows such as Scrubs, is also married to Christa Miller, who in addition to acting on the show, also serves as its music supervisor.
“To me, A. It’s such a great song. B. [Angie McMahon is] so kick ass. And C. I just had that moment with my husband so late, because we were originally going to do two songs and then this came on and I was like, ‘It can span two totally difference scenes which is kind of impossible,” Miller told Decider. “And we had struggled — I had struggled with that episode musically.
“Then it came together, and it’s one of my favorite placements that I’ve ever done.”
