Petition to change Dark Horse video gained over 65,000 signatures

More Katy Perry More Katy Perry

Australian-bound Katy Perry has removed a pendant reading the name 'Allah' in Arabic from her Dark Horse video after Muslims took offence to its inclusion.

In the video a man wearing the pendant approaches Perry – who is portraying an Egyptian queen – but is destroyed when Perry is displeased with his offering.

A Change.org petition that attracted over 65,000 petitions is now claiming victory, with organiser Shazad Iqbal writing, “I'm thrilled to let you all know the name of Allah has been removed from the Dark Horse video we couldn't have done it without everyone's support so I thank each and every one of you deeply, our voices have been heard! God bless you all.”

There has been no statement from Perry's camp.

The original opposition to the video was that, “a man is shown being burned, whilst wearing a pendant (also burned) forming the word 'Allah', which is the Arabic word for God.

“Such goes to show, that blasphemy is clearly conveyed in the video, since Katy Perry (who appears to be representing an opposition of God) engulfs the believer and the word God in flames.”
