After his Dunedin show in New Zealand this week, Jimmy Barnes has revealed some unwelcome news for fans as he landed back in hospital for surgery. After a ‘twinge’ in his hip, the rocker was left in unbearable pain and after some unexpected surgery, tour dates have now been cancelled.

Taking to social media on Saturday night, Barnes said:

“I’ve got some bad news unfortunately. I had a twinge in my hip when I was leaving Dunedin on Thursday morning and by late last night the pain was unbearable so I went off to hospital.”

“The doctors have recommended a remedial medical procedure ASAP followed by some physio to address the issue. These doctors don’t muck around! Providing all goes to plan, I’m expected to make a full recovery in six weeks.

“However, as a result of this unexpected surgery my August and September solo shows will all be impacted. Ticket holders will be contacted with further info in the coming days once we have new plans in place.”

The shows impacted include the rest of his ‘Hell of a Time’ shows including Sydney, Canberra, Toowoomba and more. It is expected that he will be back in time of his first Cold Chisel shows in October. Ticket holders will be contacted as soon as information is available.

Just this week, Barnes celebrated the news of his new book coming soon, and Cold Chisel’s epic 50th anniversary tour from October is expected to be unaffected by this unexpected setback.

Barnes has had a difficult time with his health over the last few years, landing in hospital in the back half of 2023 with heart issues. He was discharged just before Christmas after an extensive hospital stay before getting back to his beloved live performances, returning to the live front at Bluesfest earlier this year.

We wish Barnesy a quick recovery and look forward to seeing him with Cold Chisel from October.
