Sydney indie rock outfit Jet City Sports Club “grow up” on their contagious new indie-pop single Mini Skirt. Channelling the moodiness of bands like The Cranberries, Jet City Sports Club harbour their emotions through stunning guitar chords and sweet musings that detail life’s uncertainties.

The song comes after the band’s sophomore EP release earlier this year Every Single Dream. It’s a shimmery EP infused with nostalgia, warmth and hues of orange and yellow; listening to it feels like watching a rainy Autumn day pass by. Described as a “blend of dreamy melodies and sun-drenched pop charm” by Broken 8 Records, the project was a career-defining moment for the group, who have worked on shaping their own authentic indie pop/rock offering over the past few years.

Now, the band are focused on honing in on their creative vision with more of a notable ear and eye, working hard to continue to make their stamp as we progress into the new year. Mini Skirt is the band’s first sonic push into newfound territory. The song holds to the band’s whimsical indie touch, pulling on the influence of artists like The Cure, Holly Humberstone and The Beaches to bring their sincere storytelling and delivery to the forefront. Lyrically, the song encapsulates the feeling of growing up and outgrowing the idea that there is only one, singular way of living. Diving deeper though, the song unveils a raw understanding on body image and self-worth from the perspective of a young girl.

In a press release, they said: “...you don’t have to be perfect or conform to the ways your friends, family or the world might want you to. The story is narrated from the perspective of a young girl going through serious body image issues and pressure to be someone they might not necessarily be. The verses talk about this and the chorus aims to reclaim a sense of independence and self-worth.”
