After much hype and speculation, Jessica Mauboy has been confirmed as Australia’s 2018 Eurovision Song Contest entry.

Mauboy performed as a Eurovision guest back in 2014 and was the first non-European solo artist to do so at the time, making her a formidable competitor in Lisbon, Portugal in 2018.

The Darwin-born artist follows in the footsteps of Isaiah Firebrace, Dami Im and Guy Sebastian, who all finished in the top ten when representing Australia in previous years.

“Eurovision is a wonderfully joyous and unique event. It brings together over 40 diverse countries and cultures under one roof to unite us all in music,” Mauboy said.

“It shows how much the power of song can transcend differences.

“I will sing my heart out for Australia, I’m so proud to be officially representing my country and a little bit nervous - mainly about the stress of the dress!”

SBS will broadcast Eurovision 2018 from 9 – 13 May.
