As Jebediah prepare for their 'THIRTY ODYEARS' national tour, the beloved Aussie band flash back to a certain cult-favourite advert from 1997...

Gang, who remembers seeing this ad on the TV?
As the Winter of 1997 slowly shifted into Spring, so too were things changing in camp Jebediah. Our debut album, Slightly Odway, was about to be unleashed upon the world, and while we were relatively unprepared for what was about to happen, our record company had their sights set on some serious unit shifting.
A proposal was made for a TV advert to promote the album that would be played late at night across the country. This made the members of Jebs a little nervous. A television ad? That's not very cool! So we struck a deal, Sony would go ahead with the ad in every state and territory EXCEPT the one [where] we and all our friends and family lived, Western Australia. We figured, out of sight, out of mind. We could just pretend the ad didn't exist, and none of the people close to us would ever see it.
Well, as strange fortune would have it, the ad would develop a cult like appreciation over on the East Coast. In particular, it was the starring role of the "check out chick", played with incredible poise and skill by our friend Susan Robertson, who worked at our label Murmur, and one can only assume offered her talents for this breakout role for free.
For countless years after this TV ad ran, people would randomly shout out to us, "Do you wanna bag with that?" for reasons we could only assume were in homage to this influential piece of late-night advertorial noir. Funnily enough, the band had managed to make it to 2025 without ever having seen the thing...until now. So it is with great pleasure that we share with you the TV ad for Slightly Odway from 1997.
For many of you, it will be a welcome flashback from the past, no doubt eliciting warm childhood memories. For others, it will be something never before seen. For others still, it will be a reminder of something intensely annoying. Either way, here it is...enjoy...or something.
