The second ever Heavy Blanket set is happening in Australia next month.
In 2012, the great J Mascis - of Dinosaur Jr and, for the true fans, Deep Wound fame - reunited with a couple of mates from his high school years to record a 6 track LP. The record contained some of his dirtiest and fuzziest instrumental psychedelic jams ever and was released under the name Heavy Blanket.
There was one Heavy Blanket performance after the record's release, as Mascis teamed up with a couple of musicians to perform a set at the Roadburn Festival in the Netherlands, and now there's going to be another one - in a small record store in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley.
For this show, Mascis is teaming up with bassist Graham Clise (Witch, Annihilation Time) and drummer Michael Richards (Violent Soho) to perform a special Heavy Blanket live set at Tym Guitars in Brisbane. Incredibly, the show will be free and all ages, giving everyone a chance to experience the electricity of these musicians playing together.
Tym Guitars owner Tim Brennan has said that the show will be recorded, so if it all works out alright then it could potentially be released in the future. He also said that Mascis asked him to "start piling all [his] amps on stage" so you can expect this will be a very, very loud show.
