J Geils Of 'Centerfold' Hitmakers J Geils Band Dead At 71

No cause of death confirmed

'70s rocker John Warren Geils Jr, professionally known as J Geils of J Geils Band, has been found dead at 71 in his Groton, Massachusetts home.

TMZ reports no foul play is suspected, but Billboard states that the Groton Police Department has declined to confirm the guitarist's death at this point. No cause of death is reportedly known.

As Boston's WCVB reports, Geils had been living in the Groton, Massachusetts home for 35 years.

Having released their debut album in 1970, J Geils Band's 12th record, Freeze Frame, in 1981 struck gold and sat atop the Billboard chart for four weeks. The album's Centerfold was a huge hit.

In their heyday, the likes of Billy Joel, The Eagles and U2 all opened for J Geils Band.
