Official Press Release:
Formed at a time when Australian hardcore was raw and convicted, Sydney's Irrelevant preserve the authentic poignancy of the 1990s and have earned the respect that comes with longevity. As witnesses to the multitude of phases that have infected and / or complimented the hardcore genre, Irrelevant have had the wisdom to embrace that which is sweet to the taste or spit out that which is plastic or bitter; an asset the new generation of bands will only acquire in time. The side-effects of intense sweetness and plastic bitterness can either disintegrate or invigorate a creative force, and for Australia’s post-hardcore pioneers, it has invigorated with bold, bloody beauty.
Finding someone to produce this loaded creative battery meant finding someone who understood the authenticity, history and grit that is Irrelevant. Having produced the likes of Hot Water Music, Thrice, Senses Fail and The Bled, Brian McTernan was the ultimate person of choice.
Irrelevant’s musical labour coupled with McTernan’s understanding has paid off in a powerful new album, New Guilt. Recorded at Salad Days in Baltimore, USA, New Guilt is an ambitious effort in combining the brutal purity of the bands 2001 EP Reflecting and Refracting, the fierce musicality of their debut album 2005's Ascension, and the maturity that comes with a menacing decade of dedication to the road.
Out now on Resist Records, New Guilt will satisfy the salivation of the post-hardcore purist and ignite the taste buds of the neo-hardcore generation. A masterful combination of past, present and future, Irrelevant prove through New Guilt that things beautifully blistering, potent and indispensible are worth waiting for.
