Independent artist festival NightJar will see increased police presence for its remaining January dates after an incident last week involving a group of disruptive teenagers.
As news.com.au reports, an estimated 150 “loud and abusive” teens stormed the event last Thursday, terrorising patrons and running amok. After being ejected from the festival, the group disrupted a nearby pub with one youth reportedly attacking a police officer, leaving him with facial lacerations.
In a statement posted to their Facebook, NightJar detailed the increased security efforts for events going forward.

“This Thursday night you’ll notice extra fencing around the licensed area and further ID checks at licensed points and wristbands for ALL patrons over 18 — NO wristband NO service!”
Speaking to The Age, Inspector Peter Seel impressed that this was an isolated incident and the community should not be put off from attending further events.
“We want to reassure the community that we’ll have extra police in the area targeting issues such as underage drinking and unruly behaviour," Seel said.
A Victoria Police spokeswoman confirmed that following the event several people were arrested and charged with being drunk in a public place with a 17-year-old boy charged with assaulting a police officer among other offensives.
