RTRFM 92.1's annual shindig returns for its 23rd year in April
Conventional wisdom might say that nobody likes you when you're 23, but RTRFM 92.1's annual In The Pines festival is set to debunk that theory with a mammoth line-up of Perth's finest to celebrate its two-and-a-bit decades of history this year.
Excitingly, as announced on Breakfast With Caitlin this morning, veteran local act Bucket will make their eagerly awaited return after nearly 15 years away from the stage, reigniting the shoegaze/grunge/indie-rock torch that shone so brilliantly during their initial run, which included two seminal mid-'90s albums in Flounder (1994) and Muddle (1995).
Joining the resurgent Bucket on this year's In The Pines line-up is an equally impressive spread of contemporary acts, including Davey Craddock & The Spectacles, hot on the heels of touring in support of recent debut album City West, as well as Helta Skelta (freshly back from a stint in the US), the psych-punk strains of The Pissedcolas, freak-pop luminary Joni In The Moon, ascendant alt-folk troubadour Jacob Diamond and 'Australiana-tinged folk oddities' Verge Collection.
That's not all for 2016, of course — the festival's second line-up announcement will drop on Monday 21 March, and with previous line-ups taking in the high-profile likes of Methyl Ethel, Tame Impala, Abbe May, Pond, San Cisco and Jebediah, it's safe to say that In The Pines probably still has a few seriously impressive tricks and treats up its sleeve.
