In our latest installment of New Band's That You Need To Know About, we are now going to take your ears over to Icantdie with their banging debut single/video, 'Merger'.
Now, if you don't know who Icantdie are (which is most likely) they are an alternative/punk rock trio - made up of bassist Lloyd Griffiths, drummer Sean Ruck, and guitarist/vocalist Kyle Smith - from Bridgend, UK.
The trio's debut EP, 'Merger/Transition' will land on July 18th (that's next Monday, yo), and was recorded/produced and mastered by Funeral For A Friend guitarist, Gavin Burrough. So you just know it'll be of a high quality!Speaking about this EP,
Speaking about this EP, Smith said that this is a culmination of two years of work and time, saying:

""Transition/Merger" is a collection of songs that are dictations of what I've had to go through these past 2 years while creating Icantdie. Writers block, nearly broken friendships and relationship problems all covered here. It never meant to have a message behind it, but it's great to look at this piece of work and see that things can look better round the corner, after putting the shit you deal with in a creepy rock setting like this music. I can wait to show everyone what we've been up to!"
One thing worth noting is that both Griffiths and Smith used to play in a terrific band by the name of Caesars Rome, who sadly went on hiatus last year (still stand by 100/100 review of their 2014 album, 'Believers'). Now while Icantdie are a real far cry from that band, the quality and songwriting prowess is still here in droves. Elaborating about his previous band, Smith states that there was a lot of uncertainty for himself about what'd he do next.
""With Caesars Rome taking a long break, there was so much speculation with where my music journey was going to take me. Luckily I had the equipment and means to spend my free time constantly writing and recording demos on my own. I've always wanted to create music with such energy yet only have it created within a trio. Bands like Muse, Arcane Roots, Reuben, and Alkaline Trio do it so flawlessly so I wanted to go back to basics and explore that."
Well, I for one am glad that the guitarist has found a new band and hey, any inspiration from the likes of Alkaline Trio is always a good move, me thinks! Smith is also the only one in the band lacking a beard, a cardinal sin within this band, surely.
The single originally premiered through BlankTV, and features a brief guest appearance from Mitchell Bock of When We Were Wolves, who are a solid U.K. metalcore band you should go suss out. Anyway, give 'Merger' a look below - it's pretty fucking sweet! You can, and should, download it here.
