The home of the iconic Countdown TV studio is up for sale.
As Real Commercial reports, the Elsternwick studios in Melbourne has been listed by ABC which could be redeveloped as new apartments, a school or a hospital.
The venue operated as a working television studio from 1956-2017, including for iconic comedy series Kath & Kim. ABC closed it in November 2017 after opening new studios in Southbank.
ABC previously unsuccessfully attempted to sell the site back in 2018 amidst calls for it to be heritage-protected.
“Everything is possible for that sort of property, but whether they (those looking to save the studios) have the buyer power to out-compete the others, time will tell,” Savills state director Clinton Baxter said.
“It’s a huge parcel of land, the most significant metropolitan landholding to hit the market in Melbourne in 2021. It will attract a huge variety of interest from different buyers.”
