"We do not take this lightly and apologise to fans and venues who were looking forward to the shows."

US folk outfit Hiss Golden Messenger have cancelled their 2020 debut tour of Australia.

The North Carolina's band's run, intended to go ahead in January, has been called off due to an "unforeseen personal issue".

"We do not take this lightly and apologise to fans and venues who were looking forward to the shows," Hiss Golden Messenger's management said in a statement today.

"We will work to make these shows up as soon as we possibly can. Our sincerest apologies. Thank you for your understanding."

All ticket holders will be contacted by ticketing agencies and refunded in full.

Australian promoter Brian "BT" Taranto of Love Police added, "It is a drag when people cancel tours, but we support [frontman MC Taylor] in whatever he has going on and hope to bring the band back whenever the time is right".

BT added that he hopes to bring Hiss Golden Messenger and Australian support act Erin Rae to Australia in 2020.
