Pearl Jam are offering fans the opportunity to hear their new album, Dark Matter, days before its release.

Dark Matter drops on Friday, 19 April, but on the 16th, you can hear the album twice in a cinema near you. Last night (22 March), Pearl Jam announced the “global theatrical experience” ahead of its release, inviting fans to experience Dark Matter – One Night Only.

You can be one of the first to hear the new album in its entirety, with Pearl Jam offering a unique “communal experience” of hearing the album twice: “first in a dark cinema, and then again with added visuals,” the band wrote on social media.

Find the cinema near you hosting Dark Matter – One Night Only here, with 60 movie theatres across Australia set to host the experience.

Yesterday, Pearl Jam dropped the punky new single from their forthcoming album, Running.

“[Bassist] Jeff [Ament] had the main parts for that one, and we worked it over as a band,” guitarist Stone Gossard recalled in a recent SPIN interview. “I love the bridge. I don't know what the hell those chords are that [guitarist] Mike’s [McCready] playing, but it sounds original.”

Gossard also confirmed that Running was “one of the last songs” the band recorded with producer Andrew Watt at Rick Rubin’s Shangri-La Studio, saying it was “fun” to come up with an “up-tempo” song. Gossard also complimented frontman Eddie Vedder’s singing, declaring that his “vocal dexterity here and on a few other spots on the album is just stunning.”

You can listen to Running below.

Eddie Vedder has already described the album as the band’s “best work”.

In a press release, he stated: “I’m getting chills because I have good memories. We’re still looking for ways to communicate. We’re at this time in our lives when you could do it or you could not do it, but we still care about putting something out there that is meaningful, and we hopefully think is our best work. No hyperbole; I think this is our best work.”

Pearl Jam will return to Australia this November after a long ten-year absence. Due to phenomenal demand, extra shows have been added to the run.

Pearl Jam start their tour at the Gold Coast’s Heritage Bank Stadium on Wednesday, 13 November, before playing two nights at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium – Saturday, 16 November, and the second show on Monday, 18 November, and Sydney’s Giants Stadium - the first show on Thursday, 21 November, and the second on Saturday, 23 November. They’ll be joined by special guests Pixies.
