The pair will release their debut full-length later this year
Hard-working Centralian MCs Skank (Hugh Winterflood) and Shake (James Shakeshaft) may not be mainstream household names among metropolitan circles, but the pair are absolutely no slouches, having built a dedicated following stretching from coast to coast.
That's all set to change, though, as the pair unveil their first collaborative release together, new single Road Trip (featuring Elsie Lange), ahead of their forthcoming debut joint studio full-length The Long Road Ahead, and provides the perfect introduction to the duo's rap-dub-reggae-style fusion of sounds.
Check it out below:
Before teaming up with Shake, Skank was already enjoying high-profile support slots for the likes of Horrorshow, Obie Trice, Drapht and The Tongue, as well as appearing at Perth's Big Day Out back when Big Day Out was still a thing. Once the pair joined forces, though, there was truly no stopping their ascendant trajectory as they racked up successful showings all over the shop, from Brisbane's Stand Up Hip Hop Festival to the Territory's Bass In The Grass and Wide Open Space festivals.
Add to that opening spots for national hip hop luminaries Briggs and the Hilltop Hoods, as well as their ability to turn industry heads — as when they scored a mentorship with Footstomp Music following their showcase at the iNTune Alice music conference — and it's fair to say that their album's name is a conspicuously apt one; indeed, Skank and Shake are at the very beginning of their road together, and if the first little while of joint activity has been any indication, it should be a long and fruitful partnership.
Road Trip (featuring Elsie Lange) was officially released today via Footstomp.
